October 10, 2010

The Oakland Raiders had more than just a regular season victory on their minds when they took on the San Diego Chargers in a Week 5 matchup, as they were looking to snap a 13-game losing streak to their AFC West rivals.

The Raiders had not beaten the Chargers since 2003, a span of almost seven seasons.

The game started off well when Rock Cartwright blocked a punt into the endzone that would eventually become a safety and give the Raiders a two-point advantage.

A Sebastian Janikowski field goal and another blocked punt, this one recovered for a touchdown, would give the Raiders a 12-0 lead.

However, the Chargers would counter and lead at the half, 17-15.

In the second half, the Chargers would extend the lead to 27-22, but the Raiders answered back with a three-yard touchdown rush by Michael Bush, who finished the day with 104 yards on the ground.

The Raiders would seal the victory when Michael Huff forced a Philip Rivers’ fumble and defensive back Tyvon Branch would scoop it up and take it 64 yards the other way for a touchdown.

The streak would be over with a 35-27 victory and the Raiders would go on to beat the Chargers again in the season.
