This date in Oakland Raiders history:

September 28, 2008

With a second left in the half in a regular season game against the San Diego Chargers, Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin sent out kicker Sebastian Janikowski to attempt a 76-yard field goal.

The attempt was well short but became the NFL record for longest field goal attempt. Had Janikowski made it, he would have shattered the NFL record for longest field goal by 13 yards.

The attempt was taken as a joke by many and eventually became one of the memorable moments in the brief stint of Kiffin.

Janikowski has also attempted field goals of 66, 65 and 64 yards in his career and shares the NFL record with a 63-yard field goal. He is also the only kicker to have two field goals of over 60 yards.
