On This Date In Oakland Raiders History:

October 4, 1998

In Week 5 of the regular season back in 1998, the Raiders took on the Arizona Cardinals at Sun Devil Stadium. The Raiders were 2-2 and looking to move above .500 on the season.

The Raiders were down the whole game until the third quarter when rookie defensive back Charles Woodson intercepted the Jake Plummer pass and took it the other way for 46 yards and the touchdown to give the team a 16-14 lead.

The team would not relinquish the lead and would score one more time on a one-yard run by quarterback Donald Hollas.

The Raiders secondary had three interceptions that day, with Eric Allen and Marquis Walker also picking off Plummer.

The Raiders would end at .500 on the season at 8-8, however Woodson would take home the award for Defensive Rookie of the Year at season’s end.
