It was a disappointing 2017 NFL season for the Oakland Raiders as they finished with a 6-10 record and missed the playoffs. Derek Carr and the offense were never able to replicate the high-octane scoring punch from the 2016 season, while the defense once again struggled to generate many stops.

After their loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 17, Oakland decided to let go of Jack Del Rio. The move to fire Del Rio immediately after the loss led many to believe that former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden was available to fill the sudden vacancy along Oakland’s sideline.

According to Jerry McDonald of Mercury News, Gruden acknowledged the rumor:

Well, I think I am being considered, yes. I hope I’m a candidate.”

It is no secret that the silver and black would like to see Gruden back as the head coach given his past success with the team. While Gruden has been brought up in rumors before, there seems to be a real possibility that he will accept Oakland’s offer.

However, even if Gruden were to accept, he will have his hands full in trying to fix all the issues that plagued the Raiders this year. The situation will be worth monitoring as the coming weeks go by.
