NFL Free Agency Rumors: Raiders To Sign Former Chargers Wide Receiver Tyrell Williams

The Oakland Raiders have been busy in the past week, making key additions on both sides of the ball like wide receiver Antonio Brown, left tackle Trent Brown and free safety Lamarcus Joyner.

Coming off a 4-12 season though, the Raiders obviously still have a long way to go before being back in playoff contention.

Giving quarterback Derek Carr as many weapons as possible seems to be an emphasis for head coach Jon Gruden and new general manager Mike Mayock this offseason.

In addition to Antonio Brown, Carr now has another outside threat to throw to as according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Raiders are signing former Los Angeles Chargers receiver Tyrell Williams:

Williams spent four years with the Chargers after going undrafted in 2015 out of Western Oregon. He played in all 16 games in 2018, catching 41 passes for 653 yards and five touchdowns.

His best season came back in 2016, his second year in the league, when he had 69 receptions for 1,059 yards and seven touchdowns.

At 6-feet, 4-inches, Williams is known to be one of the better deep threats in the league, which could be a perfect pairing with Brown and Jordy Nelson.

While Brown and Nelson will require a lot of attention underneath, Williams will get a ton of one-on-one coverage on the perimeter for Carr to air it out to.

With so much attention being focused on adding to Gruden’s offense in the last week, the Raiders’ three first-round picks in the upcoming draft will likely be focused on adding to a Raiders defense that ranked dead last in points allowed a year ago.
