NFL Free Agency Rumors: Raiders Signing Offensive Lineman Sam Young To One-Year Contract

The Las Vegas Raiders have had a busy offseason, adding a number of players to the organization through the NFL draft and free agency.

Coming off a 7-9 season, it was clear the Raiders needed to improve, and they did exactly that by using up over $58 million in cap space to address a number of needs.

One area of the roster that wasn’t really a need is the offensive line as the Raiders had one of the best in all of football in 2019. After inking Richie Incognito to an extension at the beginning of the offseason, Las Vegas returns all five of its starters up front from a year ago.

They did make a few moves to increase their depth on the offensive line though, signing Denzelle Good to an extension, bringing in a veteran in Eric Kush and drafting John Simpson out of Clemson in the fourth round.

It appears they have made another one of those depth signings, inking veteran Sam Young to a one-year contract, via Adam Schefter of ESPN:

Young originally was a sixth-round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2010 out of Notre Dame. He has bounced around the league a bit, also playing for the Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers in his 10-year NFL career.

While Young has appeared in 92 games, starting 21 of them, he has only played in 16 games (one start) over the last two seasons. So barring any significant changes, it’s unlikely that Young sees much playing time for the Raiders in 2020, if he even makes the roster. Having another veteran presence in a young locker room should be a plus though as Las Vegas looks to get back in contention in 2020.
