NFL Free Agency News: Raiders Sign Tight End Nick O’Leary

Free-agent tight end Nick O’Leary will be signing with the Las Vegas Raiders, his agency SportsTrust Advisors announced.

O’Leary originally was a sixth-round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2015 out of Florida State. He spent his first three seasons with the Bills before going to the Miami Dolphins in 2018. He then split the 2019 season between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Dolphins.

In 59 career games (24 starts), O’Leary has 53 receptions for 668 yards and four touchdowns as he is known more for his blocking.

The Raiders have perhaps the deepest group of tight ends in the league, which makes the O’Leary signing a bit peculiar. Darren Waller is coming off a career season and has established himself as one of the best all-around tight ends in this league. Foster Moreau also had an impressive rookie season, and Derek Carrier provided the organization with depth as a third-stringer.

Despite that, the Raiders have brought in two more tight ends this offseason in Nick O’Leary and Jason Witten. While Witten is at the tail end of his career and may not be able to provide much on the field, he should serve as a valuable veteran presence in the locker room for a team with a young roster.

As it currently stands, O’Leary will likely be fifth on the tight end depth chart for the Raiders, so he will have some work to do if he wants to crack the roster.
