The Oakland Raiders have spent the majority of the 2018 NFL season parting ways with Pro Bowl-caliber talent. However, it appears they are willing to make an exception for CJ Anderson.
He was recently waived by the Carolina Panthers following a quiet season. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Raiders are reportedly signing Anderson:

This is certainly an interesting signing for the Raiders. It is a bit of a homecoming for Anderson both professionally and personally. He attended Bethel High School in nearby Vallejo and his mom is known to be a diehard Raiders fan. He also spent several years terrorizing Oakland as the workhorse for the AFC West rival Denver Broncos. It appears his career and personal life have now come full circle.
The Raiders backfield suffered a severe blow with the injury to Marshawn Lynch several weeks ago. As a result, they have largely relied on a combination of Doug Martin and Jalen Richard. However, it seems that Oakland has been looking for another talented back to add to the mix. It is no secret that they are in the midst of a strenuous rebuild. Although the front office has ushered in a bit of a youth movement this season, it is clear that they are interested in what Anderson brings to the table.
The veteran signed with the Panthers following his first 1,000-yard campaign. Unfortunately, he was quickly stashed away in the backfield with the emergence of Christian McCaffrey. Regardless, there is no doubt that the former Pro Bowler still has plenty left in the tank. It will be interesting to see if he is able to garner some touches over the final stretch of the season.
