HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’ Series Featuring Raiders Nominated For Sports Emmy

In their last year in Oakland, the Las Vegas Raiders were unable to make it to the playoffs. Although there were a number of highlights and glimpses of a promising future, there was still some disappointment at the end of the year.

Going back to training camp and the start of preseason, the Raiders seemed like a team destined for the playoffs. Antonio Brown was finally putting on the Silver and Black and he and Derek Carr seemed to be connecting on and off the field. Of course, Raiders fans were able to get a first hand look at this thanks to HBO’s documentary series, Hard Knocks.

Although it will not make up for the lack of a playoff appearance, perhaps earning any trophy for their 2019 campaign can ease the Raiders’ pain. According to the official Sports Emmys Twitter, the Raiders season of Hard Knocks has been nominated for best documentary series:

According to Raiders.com, Hard Knocks has won a Sports Emmy the past 11 years. HBO as a production company is nominated for an additional 15 Sports Emmys this year.

Unfortunately, the Raiders and fans will not find out anytime soon if Hard Knocks will win the coveted award. Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) scare, the awards have been postponed from their original date of April 28.

As for the upcoming edition of Hard Knocks, no team has been selected yet. However, teams do need to meet certain criteria. Any team that is to appear on the program must not have a first-year head coach, not have been on the program during the past 10 years, and has not been to the playoffs in two years. With that in mind, that leaves the shortlist of eligible teams to the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars or Pittsburgh Steelers.
