The success of the Las Vegas Raiders 2024 season will almost definitely be predicated on making the right decision at quarterback between Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew. And arguably no player is affected more by that choice than star wide receiver Davante Adams.
Adams is coming off a down season by his standards, not being named a First Team All-Pro for the first time in four years or a Pro Bowler for the first time in seven seasons. But who Adams’ quarterback will be likely won’t be known until right before the regular season.
Minshew and O’Connell will likely battle throughout the preseason for the Raiders quarterback job, and Adams believes there are pros and cons to this timeline, via Paul Gutierrez of ESPN:
“There’s pros and cons [to no timeline], but at the end of the day, we get enough reps with both guys and we are all communicating,” Adams said. “We have really open conversations, and we all get reps with all the quarterbacks … and I’m definitely watching at all times, seeing everything and learning how the ball comes out with Gardner versus Aidan.
“I got my antennas up for everything.”
Adams understands the importance of chemistry between himself and his quarterback and is keeping a close eye on everything that goes on with this battle. Obviously, he and O’Connell have a better knowledge of each other due to their time together last season, but Minshew is someone who has proven he can come in and produce.
The concern with the Raiders taking their time on making a final decision is that they are splitting time and reps as opposed to everything happening with that one quarterback, allowing him to get more comfortable with everyone.
The Raiders want to see who emerges from this battle, and that will take time and some preseason games. Whoever wins the job will have to be on the same page with Adams, and the star receiver will make sure all of the necessary work is put in.
Raiders Davante Adams one of the highest-rated receivers in Madden 25
Due to his numbers being down compared to the past three seasons, Davante Adams rating in EA Sports annual football title Madden 25 are a little down, but he is still among the best in the NFL.
Adams’ rating this year is 94, down slightly from 97 a season ago, but still in the top-10 wide receivers in the game, at number six overall. Tyreek Hill, Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, AJ Brown and Amon-Ra St. Brown were the receivers ranked ahead of the Raiders star.
