The Oakland Raiders have decided to part ways with veteran quarterback Matt Flynn according to Sports Illustrated’s Jim Trotter via Twitter:

After an extremely disappointing start against the Washington Redskins in Week 4, the writing was on the wall in Oakland with the team leaning toward releasing Flynn. The veteran was immediately demoted to third string behind Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin following the loss to the Redskins.

With Pryor emerging as the starter during the preseason and proving to be much better than anticipated, Flynn became an afterthought in Oakland with it only being a matter of time before the team parted ways with the career backup.

Now that the team has parted ways with Flynn, the Raiders may be leaning toward bringing in veteran David Carr. The team decided to bring in Carr for a workout even before the rumors started to circulate about Josh Freeman potentially being targeted by the team.
