Former Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Corey Liuget has signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills. The Raiders released Liuget less than a week ago to make room for Will Compton, Erik Magnuson and Terrell McClain on their active roster.
Liuget had a solid career with the Los Angeles Chargers before signing with the Raiders this offseason. He posted a career-high 45 solo tackles and 4.5 sacks in 2014 but has declined since then. Last season he only appeared in six games, finishing the year with five solo tackles and 1.5 sacks.
During his brief time with the Raiders, Liuget appeared in three games, coming off the bench. He finished his tenure with the team with three solo tackles, one for loss and one quarterback hit.
While many believed that Liuget would have a big impact on the Raiders defense this year, the Raiders have made it clear they would rather focus on developing their young talent. Of course, Clelin Ferrell will be a big part of that in the future, but Maxx Crosby has been the biggest rookie surprise for the Raiders.
The Bills have one of the best defenses in the NFL this year. They have given up both the third-fewest yards allowed and touchdowns, so Liuget will be hoping to carve out some sort of role on their defense or else he could find himself out of the league once again.
