The Oakland Raiders announced that they have signed veteran left guard Richie Incognito to a two-year contract extension. They did not announce the terms of the extension, but it has been widely reported that it is for $14 million.

Incognito signed with the Raiders this past offseason after sitting out the 2018 season and was able to turn his career around in Oakland. The three-time Pro Bowler served a suspension for off-the-field issues to begin the season, but in 12 games he was a very solid offensive lineman for the Raiders.

He surrendered just one sack of his own in 432 pass-blocking snaps, per Pro Football Focus, and was a big reason that Derek Carr was able to stay upright for a majority of the year and Josh Jacobs was able to become the first 1,000-yard rookie rusher in franchise history. Incognito was recognized for his season by being named an alternate for the Pro Bowl.

Additionally, Incognito’s veteran presence in the locker room was big for the organization’s young players. He has gone through plenty of ups-and-downs in his career but all reports indicated he joined the Raiders with a positive mindset and he was able to serve as a leader of the team during a difficult season.

With Incognito locked in for two more years, the Raiders’ offensive line for 2020 is essentially set with him and Kolton Miller on the left side, Rodney Hudson at center and Gabe Jackson and Trent Brown on the right side. Having that much stability on the offensive line is extremely valuable as the organization can now focus on using their draft picks and cap space to address other needs on the roster.
